A provisional funding decision is an important step, but it should be distinguished from a final approved project and money disbursed.

The Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage announced on 22 October 2026 that its Board had provisionally set aside US$21.6 million from available commitment authority for Nepal following the Bhote Koshi flash floods. That is the figure used in the Fund’s own public statement.
The decision also pilots a way for Nepal to submit a request under the Barbados Implementation Modalities outside the normal submission period. Setting money aside is therefore not the same as confirming that an approved project has received the full amount in cash.
For an accurate discussion, track three stages separately: the provisional reservation, the detailed funding request and approval process, and actual disbursement and implementation reporting. Avoid turning a headline amount into an assumption about what individual households will receive.
